I think I can say that I'm getting serious now about getting the '59 set done. Of course it is going to take some doing with some very expensive cards in the final run that I need, but like always I'm confident that I'll figure something out.
This trio of cards is one that I picked up on eBay from a seller that was doing a set break. My scanner decided that it was taking Saturday night off as well, so my ancient iPhone was called into service.
Now that I look at it, not a bad photo if I do say so myself. Not great, but not bad.
The Bamberger is one of the SPs that I needed and both the White and Taylor cards were something that I should have had in hand a long time ago, but now they are home.
This leaves me with 69 to go, I have 2 on the way from eBay, along with another that I purchased just a few minutes ago on twitter.
Quick COMC update for those that are following along at home:
Just over 170K cards shipped since my original order date 3 weeks ago. Really rough math says that my order will ship in 18 weeks at the current pace. 18 Weeks from today is November the 27th. The date is improving. We'll see how that goes.
Enjoy the hobby!
Robert
I'm excited to see your progress on this set. Hope there aren't too many high-value/high-numbered singles left for you to chase. (Gibson RC I'm assuming?)
ReplyDeleteBill White is one of the dozen or so '59 singles in my collection. That COMC wait time is torture. There are a million items ahead of you!??! Who the heck is (still) buying from COMC that there would be so many cards going out after everyone is aware of their terrible turnaround time?
Yes Chris, the Gibson RC is still on the want list, along with a couple Mantle cards, Aaron, Mays, Koufax, Berra, Musial and Spahn. It's going to take some time, but I'll get there.
DeleteI ordered from COMC because there were a bunch of singles for a couple sets that I'm trying to finish that I couldn't find anywhere else. I think my order was for 55 cards. There's a few others on twitter that ordered around the same time as I did...
Didn't know there were SPs in '59 Topps - guess I shouldn't be surprised given the wacky stuff that went on in the printing room at Topps way back when! My latest COMC order finally dipped below a million "Items Ahead Of My Order" so I guess that's something.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm stuck in the 21st century when using the SP terminology. High number/later series is probably the better term. Everything numbered 507-572 is a little more scarce and pricey.
DeleteI had fun watching the number of items ahead of my order go down every day. In fact... there were days I was so bored, I'd check a few times. Hope they end up shipping your order by the end of October, instead of the end of November.
