I'm not talking about the Topps Heritage you normally think of

I recently received my portion of my 2nd trade with Greg (TCDB ID: Gregory_Kyle) who both times has set me up with some great hockey cards for my various collections.  One card from the 8 I'm going to show you today really kind of hit home with me, and I'll discuss that in a bit.

Since I've upped my want lists for both Mats Sundin and Felix Potvin, the collections have really started to grow.   I especially like the Pinnacle Summit card as it displays the cat "set up" that Felix employed on his equipment, which a lot of goalies really didn't do back in the 90's.

The Mats Sundin card is one that I don't think I've ever seen, it's a 93-94 Upper Deck Hat Tricks insert, and it chronicles on the back his point production from the season before (114, his career high), and the lone hat trick he scored in a loss to the North Stars.  I can't even remember seeing the Hat Tricks card on COMC or on ebay before, so it's definitely most welcome.

I've had some interesting additions to the Joe Sakic PC recently, including some of his earlier cards, along with a couple of stickers.   The Topps Premier Gold card in the lower left falls under the "I thought I had this already category".  I remember distinctly having a deck of the 95-96 Hockey Aces cards that features Joe as the King of Clubs, but I'll be damned if I can remember where that deck of cards is now.  These 4 bring the Sakic PC up to 818 cards, and now that I've passed 800 the collection seems to be gaining some steam again.  Not bad for a PC that I've not really focused on for a few months!

I'm sure I've said this each time I've posted a card from the 2000-01 Topps Heritage hockey set, but I'm going to say it again anyhow.

I love this damn set.   I love how it looks.  Plain, simple.  Player and team names on simple bars at the bottom of the card.  Nice large team logo at the top which doesn't interfere with the player photo.  The back is sharp and mimics the original 54-55 Topps hockey set as the front does.  Between this and the 2002-03 Heritage set (the TV design), I can't decide which I like more (although it probably is this one).

My question right now is, where are all the cards?  I put this want list up a few months back, and I can only remember 2 or 3 cards from this set coming my way in trades.  I'd love to get this set completed, which I know will be a bit of a task because the rookies are numbered out of 1955, but even still I can't believe that there aren't a few people out there that have some of these up for trade.

Good heavens, don't make me beg....

Enjoy the hobby!!

He ain't Crazie, he's my brother

Fellow blogger, and now 2 time trade partner Joe (TCDB ID:CrazieJoe) recently swapped some cards with me; about 2 dozen went traveled about 1600 miles in each direction to get to their intended target.

It's quite easy trading with Joe, as our interests are very similar.  Blue Jays and hockey are the common thread, and while I sent Joe a few duplicate parallels of Jays, he sent me some hockey cards that are new to my eyes.

A lonely 2000-01 Topps Heritage card featuring Andrew Brunette starts off the scan.  I know it's probably going to be a long time before I find a trade partner to put a big dent into that set, but at least there will be 1 fewer card on the want list when I do find them.

2007-08 OPC was a set that I was excited about collecting when it was released over a decade ago, and I wish that I had kept after it back then.  But my knowledge about where to find cards on the net has increased exponentially since then, and now I'm looking forward to continuing on the path to putting that set together.

The 2009-10 OPC build has grown a lot quicker than I thought it would originally.  I had hoped to find a starter set on ebay or at a show sometime in the past year, but that hasn't happened.  I've wound up already acquiring about a third of the set through trades, and these 15 cards make a nice little dent into that want list.  No major names in this group, but there's lots of color (especially red), and the vintage Penguins uniform that Ruslan Fedotenko is sporting is a favorite of mine.

This trade with Joe brings me to within 10 of my 2019 goal of 100 trades, as I now have 90 in the bank.   With 1/3 of the calendar to go this year, this one is in the bag....

Thank  you for the trade Joe, it is appreciated.  Looking forward to the next one...

The crazy things I'm still chasing

I took this want list off of the blog a long time ago, but that didn't mean I still wasn't chasing these:

I recently picked this up for $1.25 off of COMC, and it becomes the 25th card in the set that I own.  There's still 65 more to go, and while this isn't any kind of priority right now, I did put up a want list on the TCDB on the off chance that someone might have one or two that they're looking to move.

Here's another card that I picked up in a trade recently, it adds to another long lost set that I started putting together many years ago:

I love the look of the 2000-01 Topps Heritage hockey set, and I look forward to someday having the complete set as part of my collection.  A big thanks to Edward (TCDB ID:  Detfan6897) for the set help , and the player collection help as well as he hit several of my player wants.

As far as the next set goes, I wouldn't classify it as "still chasing", more likely the words "getting off to a good start" applies:

Mr. Mike Minor that you see here is already card #79 out of the 300 card set that I own.  I've had quite a bit of good luck with trading for these already, and while I know that the set isn't going to be finished quickly, I'm still looking forward to having this in hand when it's completed.

Another parallel set that I've added another card to recently is the 2008 Upper Deck X die cut set:

Roy Oswalt is the halfway point for the set, as I now have 50 of the 100 cards.  No rush here as well, but I do have the want list up on the TCDB as well.

I don't expect to finish this set off anytime soon as well, but the 2018-19 OPC retro parallel set is another one that I'd love to finish someday.  With just 26 out of 600 cards in hand, don't expect to see any cheering on here that the set is complete any time soon.

Notice that only one of the 5 sets I have listed in this post is a base set.  Everything else is a parallel.

It's a sickness I say....

Trying to do what I said I was going to do

My New Year's posts in the past have always been heartfelt.  We all want to do what we set out to do at the beginning of the year, right?  I'm not sure what it is about 2017 though, as I seem to be more in tune with my goals than ever before.

This post is my 10th in January, and considering that I was sick and kind of useless for 10 days at the beginning of the month, I'm happy that double digits is coming early.

Last night I also got a start on putting together a box of cards to send to COMC.  I'm looking forward to seeing how this little clean up is going to work out, and you can be sure that I'll let everyone know how it's going...

The $2K "goal"/"project"/whatever you want to call it is in full swing.  I've posted twice about purchases so far in January, and I'm using the post title to keep track of how much money I have left for the year.   Easy, right?

The contest that I mentioned on my New Year's post didn't get as many entries as I thought (only 10 so far), so I figured that I'd give people one more shot at some cards.  I'm looking to grab some cards for everyone the first part of February, so if you want some cards, leave a comment on the post that I've linked at the beginning of this paragraph.   Otherwise, I'll just give more cards to the people that are already in...

I didn't mention the SNIH project in my New Years goals, but tonight's post will be the leftover cards from my personal collection that I hadn't posted as of now.  There's 4 of them, 3 of them goalies and the 4th a goalie killer (for lack of a better description).

Serial # 269

Loved the Topps Heritage sets that were released back in the early 2000's, I wish Topps had kept up with them...

Serial #408

Their homage to the 66-67 set was right on the money, and maybe someday I'll get around to putting a want list up for it.

Serial #517

The '54-'55 version of Topps was redone in 2000-01, and is another set that I want to complete.  I was lucky enough to pull a Gump Worsley auto from a pack many years back.  What might hold me back from completing the set is that there's several RC's that list for $10 or more.  Maybe sometime down the road I'll shoot for this set, but not just yet.

Serial #531
Everyone say it together now...."his foot was in the crease!!!"  To me, that rule was pretty sketchy at best, although one of my former bosses would disagree as he was a diehard Sabres/Dominik Hasek fan.  Did you know that Brett made a mockery of the BCJHL in the 83-84 season by scoring 105 goals in just 56 games?  Brett also finished 2 spots behind Darren Pang in Calder Trophy voting, which was won in 87-88 by his Calgary teammate Joe Nieuwendyk.

OK, that's all the serial #'d cards from my collection, I just have a few more from Doug I have to post and I'll be caught up!   Now all I have to do is find a couple of binders and start getting these cards into some pages....
