Good Tuesday afternoon to you all, hope that your workday is progressing without you going postal....(lol)
I'm lining up these trade posts and knocking them down...like I said last night, gotta give props to those who are kind enough to take the time to share some cards with me.
Jeroen is another of the new kids on the block, he has participated in a few group breaks, and he contacted for me about a trade a couple of weeks ago. After a few emails and my reintroduction to the English language (I tend to type as I speak sometimes, not a good thing), Jeroen and I hammered out a deal. I sent him some A&G cards that he was in need of, and he hooked me up with some Masterpieces.
Thanks to his generosity, my '08 UD Masterpieces base set (1-90) is now complete! But wait there's more...
Jeroen also included 3 SPs from that set as well...the Ryan has him in the Astros jersey from the 80's which is still the greatest jersey ever. One more SP from the '11 Heritage set was also included.
Jeroen, hopefully you have received your end of the trade by now. I do appreciate the trade, thank you very much!!

An offhand comment leads to a pile of cards on my doorstep
Good Monday evening to you all, hope that your day went without a hitch.
Not too long ago, I posted about the excursion that my wife and I took. "Junking" is what we called it, you may remember it on the Goodwill Hunting post (if you did read it).
Well I had posted about the finds that were in the bag of cards that I picked up from the Goodwill, and you may recall I said this about '86 Topps:
We've got vintage stuff, such as Lee Tunnell in his fancy Pirates hat, Derrel "1L" Thomas, and Whitney Houston's hubby in the lower left corner.
Man, there's a lot of names that I hadn't seen in a while. Tom "the Terminator" Henke, Darryl Motley Crue, Jim Rice a Roni...and other names that bring all those 80's memories flooding back.
Kevin Bass is there for no other reason but to let the Night Owl know that he's not the only one who gets Bass's cards(nice Bass). Alan Knicely is there just because he has a nice name. Gossage and Aase? Those are some great 'staches...Mike Hargrove? Gotta have the human rain delay in a post. Bob Gibson? Well, I just wanted to say that I had a card of the "other" Bob Gibson.
Paul and I had recently completed a trade as well, that post will be Wednesday afternoon (yes I know, another trade post....but hey, gotta give props to the peeps!!!).
Hey Paul, thank you very much for the major '86 love here!! By the way, if you want to see how to really post about 1986 Topps, head to the blog that does it a little more justice.
Looks like I'm gonna collect 1986 Topps sooner rather than later...lol
As always, thanks for reading...Robert

"I don't know what it is, the team name at the top in the team's colors in a black background has always attracted me to these cards. Sick, ya I know, but for me this works. Make a mental note...'86 Topps in the future..."Well there was a comment on that post that I should have paid more heed to.
"I have a bunch of 86 Topps laying around, they will find there way to you eventually"That was from Paul over at the new blog The Baseball Card Snob. Well, needless to say, those '86s found their way to me today...I figured what....30-40? Try 175. A box out of the blue.

2012 Trade post # 17: Plaschke, thy Sweater is Argyle
Good Monday afternoon to you all, hope that your weekend is off to a fine start.
Here within this post is the 5th trade that I have completed with Greg over at Plaschke, thy Sweater is Argyle.
Don't blink, or you will miss all the cards I received (lol). Sometimes small trades are the best, and this one definitely counts in that regard. I sent Greg some OPC parallels and a redemption card from '11 Topps Chrome for a Danny Espinosa auto. Greg was able to hit my wants perfectly.
First, I'm one card closer to completing the '77 Topps set...card #491 features rookie pitchers, including Denny Martinez of the Orioles
Greg also knows that a good Maple Leaf auto card is always welcome here, and he definitely did not disappoint.
Clarke MacArthur of the Maple Leafs...nice auto, even though it is a sticker. Clarke even manages to fit his jersey # 16 on the limited space he has to work with.
Quick and painless, another great trade brought to you by the team of the Habit and Plaschke....
Thanks again Greg, much appreciated as always!!

OK, now I can concentrate
Good Sunday evening to you all, hope that those of you who watched the Super Bowl enjoyed the game.
Now that football season is over, I can concentrate on hockey, and soon (in about 3 weeks) baseball. Not that I don't like football, but for me it is a distant third to the other two, and if you're wondering where basketball is on the list, it's somewhere behind NASCAR, golf, table tennis, beer pong, and professional roshambo (you get the idea).
Sunday afternoons are free once again to peruse the blogosphere, trying to find inspiration, or looking for cards to pare down my want lists. The Bay is another way of hunting for cards (you knew that already ...), and sometimes you can find bargains like this one...
Got these two for less than $2.50 on eBay, and naturally the Lind goes straight into the Jays PC. I will say it has been a great start to the year for Jays autos/relics, as the Lind you see here from '11 A&G brings the total up to 21. Well on the way to the 30 total I had set as a goal by the end of the year. If anyone is interested in the Reynolds jersey card, it is for trade...just leave me a comment and I'll be sure to get back to you.
I also need to get rolling on the multitude of hockey sets I've been putting off for quite a while now. I have a bunch of older sets that I need to complete, along with the most recent offering of '11-12 Upper Deck. I especially love the canvas cards this year, and they may be tempting enough for me to collect...we'll have to see..
They have a kind of textured look as well, similar to the UD Masterpieces sets of a few years back.
oh, and one more thing, did you know that Roger Clemens had a 2nd career on the side washing dishes??
I bet you didn't know that....see cards are educational!!

Week 28 began yesterday at the monthly card show
Good Sunday morning to you all...it's Super Bowl Sunday. Although I will be rooting for the Giants to win, I have a feeling that Patriots are going to pull this one out (I've been known to be wrong before).
Yesterday was an interesting day for me to say the least. $700 to fix my truck (with more to come) left me in a bit of a mood, and also with a lot less time than I normally have to peruse the monthly card show.
I did hit some of my usual tables however, and picked up some stuff quickly and cheaply. I snagged 3 more cards towards the insanity set. At another table the dealer was selling '12 Topps at 3/$5, so I bought $20 worth, and did OK. A couple of doubles, nothing too serious, 4 of the '87 minis and handfuls of the other inserts of which I will not bore you with the scans. I will show you the best card I pulled...
I bought a ton of packs last year, and didn't hit one black parallel. The 4th pack this year, and I snag a Jason Bay black, #'d 9/61. This is already earmarked for a trade.
Anytime I hit this show I always go to my vintage guy. He has a table full of vintage from the 50's through the 70's. I decided that I was going to spend no more than 10 bucks at his table, so I started leafing through the 50 cent row of cards he had. The '64 Topps set is becoming a curiosity for me, largely because that's another design that I can't help but like (kind of like the '86, yeah I know it's weird, but I'm like that...). I found a half dozen of the '64s that I now have in my possession.
There were only a couple of names in this group of 6 that I'd ever heard of (Pappas and Perranoski), so not only will these be fun to collect, but a learning experience as well. The only players that I really know of from the 60's were stars or those who later coached or managed in baseball somewhere.
The backs of these cards were also in pretty good shape as well.
Only one of the 6 cards had the cartoon rubbed off, which was good. For $3, for me a great beginning to this set, which I'm sure one day I'll collect when each of the modern sets I'm going after is complete.
The same dealer always has 100 count lots of sets from the 70's for a bargain price as well, so I took a look at the '75 Topps he had. He had it listed for $7, on the top of the case was this card:
not a bad start, The Cobra Dave Parker. Now when I usually buy these lots from him, the cards are mostly commons, but on the bottom of this lot was a nice Rollie Fingers card.
Not in the greatest shape, but a listed card so to get it at a cheapo price was cool. I bought the lot on the basis of those 2 cards alone, but there were some other cards that I was happy to see in the middle...for instance this card.
Although it looks like someone had a little fun with Bob's right eye, this card was still pretty cool to pickup in this lot. There were some others that I liked and was happy to grab...
Two parts of the big Red Machine
Part of the best infield of the 70's and an all rookie team pitcher
Plus a pair of cards that I know will make a few Dodgers fan cringe because they are side by side...
100 cards for 7 bucks can't be beat, especially when you crack open the case and find a bunch of cards you wouldn't expect to see in there.
I didn't have any of my want lists with me unfortunately because of my time constraints, but still it was a pretty good haul considering.
