Cheaper than a quad relic card

The 2nd of two eBay posts this week compares the quad relic card I got the other day for $10 shipped versus this lot of 23 '67 Topps cards.  I managed to snag the lot below for less than the cost of the Jays relic;  the cost of this lot was just $9 shipped.

The lot was actually 30 cards altogether, but there were 4 duplicates (not mentioned in the listing, that's my own fault for not asking first), and three of the cards were cards that I already owned.  

The cards are in pretty good shape, none are creased and the corners for the most part are in decent condition.  With Ken "the Hawk" Harrelson and Mickey Lolich as part of the deal, this was a nice pick up for me. 

These cards double the total I have toward the set, which is a long way from being a focus item for me.  I still have '64 and '73 and '59 Topps sets that are on the go, maybe this weekend's card show will help to put a bit of a dent into those.

Say good bye to the Texas Rangers

Yes folks, the Texas Rangers are gone and forgotten from this earth.  I've finally put them out of their misery.

OK, so that was a little over dramatic, but I did just finish a trade with fellow tweeter (twitterer?) Brandon L., the profits of which were 3 more serial numbered cards to come my way.

 

Humberto Quintero knocks another Astro off of the list, and his card is serial numbered 890.  The Astros now stand at 38 cards out of 50.

Michael Saunders giving a double high five at the plate is a cool card to add to the SNI project.   His serial number is 1021, and gives the Mariners card #35 out of 50.

Rangers fans feeling a little Salty right now?

Feel Salty no longer, as Jarrod Saltalamacchia (man that's tough to type) is the 50th and final card for the Texas Rangers in the set.  The Rangers join the Yankees, Mets and Angels as completed teams in the set.    The A's, Jays and Rays are all very close to completion as well.

I actually have had a couple of completed page posts waiting for just such an occasion, so without further adieu, here's 5 more completed pages for your perusal.

181-189

6 of the 9 cards on page #21 above are the responsibility of fellow bloggers.   I don't know where this set would be without the generosity and fascination that many have had towards this project.

136-144

Page 16 has 7 cards that came in trades from the blogosphere.  The Bill Hall was picked up at the '12 National, while the Eric Hosmer came from the '14 National.   Yes, this set has been going for quite a while now.

172-180

Page #20 above is one of the few pages that I can say that I am responsible for the majority of the cards.  5 out of the 9 were purchases/pulls of mine.   Dennis from the Too Many Verlanders blog provided the Hundley and the Wells cards on this page. (thank you again sir!)

658-666

Page #74 boasts 6 cards out of 9 from the blogosphere, including heavy hitter Max from the Starting Nine blog, who appears a whopping 73 times in the set.  I said that there were some dedicated people, now didn't I?

235-243

Finally, page #27 features just 4 cards out of the 9 from the world outside, including some guys you might have heard of.   Greg, Ted, Max (again) and A.J. all have a hand in the insanity.

242 to go.   Unless a major push happens in the next 8 weeks, the goal of 1400 by years end will fall short.

No worries, every little trade and contribution pushes me closer to a set that has been fun so far, and will continue to be so until completed.

I don't usually chase cards like this

The recent bug of scanning cards and putting them on the new Jays hits page got me looking on eBay last week, just to see if there was anything worth picking up.

I very rarely buy cards like the one below.  Quad relic cards are nice, but often they'll have players/teams on them that I'm not interested in owning.

Then I found this card.

Topps Museum Collection quad relic.  All Blue Jays.   What surprised me was the price.

$9.99 BIN or Best offer.   Wow!  (at least wow for me...)

I offered $7.50 (shipping brought the total to $10).   It was instantly accepted.  Three mail days later I have it in my grubby hands.

#'d 14/75, it has 2 pieces of bat, and the Morrow is a patch piece.  It's thick as a brick as well.

Hey, at least 2 of these guys will still be with the Jays next year.   At least I hope they will be.

Bits and pieces

There are some minis that I find too small for my pudgy hands.  The tobacco sized minis, for example, are not conducive to handling. 

The minis that Tony from the Off Hiatus blog sent me recently are better suited for me.  Plus, I didn't have any of the minis from 2014 Topps, so they were most certainly welcome.

Even though they mirror the base set photos (why can't Topps change a few photos, is it really that difficult?), they still look pretty good.  The gold Goins is #'d 27/63, so instead of hitting the SNI set, he goes right into the Jays collection.

The '94 UD Molitor was the last card needed to complete that team set.   So, after deleting all the "completed" teams off of the want list yesterday, I now have another one to remove during the next purge. 

The R.A. Dickey '13 Triple Threads leaves me just needing the Reyes to complete the base portion of that team set.  There are jersey/autos for Gose and Lawrie, but I'm not too worried about chasing those.   I could have sworn that I have the blue gloved Bautista card in the center, but the want list said otherwise, so that one was marked off the list.  The Lawrie cut to the chase card gives me both of the Jays from that particular insert set (Dickey being the other). 

Tony, thank you for the envelope, great stuff!!  It is appreciated.

Update and updates

During my travels last weekend, I actually ran into a few rack packs of '14 Update at the local Wal Mart.  I figured what the hell and grabbed a couple of them, just to see what's up.

Nothing's changed I see....

I struck gold with the Erick Aybar gold parallel.  I neither need Angels, or the serial # 608, so this will go on the trade page.

Yes, you read that right, I took the time and added a cards for trade page on the right hand side of the page.   It's a lot of inserts and parallels over the past few years, organized by team.  There are some teams that are lacking (Dodgers for one, I wonder why....), and some that are plentiful (I seem intent on pulling Oakland cards the past couple of years it seems) so take a look and see if there's something you may want or need.

How about the 3 blue parallels that I pulled from the pack all being horizontal?   I could probably open 100 more rack packs (I won't do that, I promise) and not get 3 horizontal parallels again.

Let me ask a simple question to our friends at Topps, then I'll move on.

Each player gets his own all-star card in the Update set, correct?   Why then is there another insert set featuring players at the all-star game?  It just doesn't make sense, but then I guess that's why I don't make the big bucks.

I will say this.   I like the Power Players inserts now.   The base set Power Players cards were very drab.   I'm glad Topps jazzed them up some, and I'm looking forward to getting the Blue Jays Jose Bautista version of this insert.

Speaking of the Blue Jays, I took the time this morning to update the Jays want list as well.   I removed all the completed sets, which should make the page a little easier to navigate.   There are still a lot of cards on the page, something I'm hoping to put a major dent into during 2015.

If you pull any of the Jays or their accompanying parallels from the update set, I am interested.   I probably will not be buying anymore, or chasing the set, so help will be required.
