Sweetness and O.J. a pair of the greatest running backs ever to play. Man, could they run. Their elusiveness was incredible. Topps, imaged tp get them both on the same card. Can't complain about that.
1973 was O.J.s breakout season, 11 100-yard games, 2 for over 200+ yards, The 3 games he didn't get to 100, they lost. The final 2 games of that year he ran for over 7 yards a carry. Impressive numbers.
How about on the other side of the ball. Lester Hayes was one of the great CB's of the 70's. I've got to work on finishing these pair of sets. Great card era for football I have to say. How about 13 interceptions in 1980?? Maybe QB's thought they were throwing the ball to him.
have a great day, Robert

Just watched an awesome video on YT about Lester. It took me back to my childhood when my dad and I would sit around and watch the Raiders play on Sundays.
ReplyDeleteP.S. That Walter/OJ LL card is awesome!
That Payton-Simpson card took some doing when I was completing the '77 set. I remember Payton playing but Simpson was just a bit before my football-watching time.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely remember Hayes and the stickum controversy.
And I thought CMC had a great season...
ReplyDeleteThe Payton/OJ card is a nice one for sure! I wasn't familiar with Hayes but looked him up and see that he had quite the career, especially that 1980 season. A pair of Super Bowls too. Always nice to see vintage football since there's not a ton of that on the blogs I follow.
