Damn tins

I am a sucker for tins.  Primarily the tins that hold packs of cards.  I don't know what it is, maybe I really do have a problem for shiny things

Parallels.

Tins.

Sorry, lost my train of thought there for a second.   Let's get back to the task at hand, shall we?

Here's the latest of the cardboard encased tins to join my collection, 2013-14 Upper Deck series 2.

Yes, it cost me $30 bucks for 12 packs of cards.  It is a little pricey, but for me these tins represent two things.  They're collectable, and they help with storage.  I have a couple of tins full of older hockey jersey cards.

You've come for the cards, I understand.  The cards feature UD's usual first rate photography.

Let's start with the guy on the tin, Patrick Kane.

He may be on the dreaded Blackhawks, but he is one of the most talented players in the NHL.  Great fun to watch, and I will stop and watch a 'Hawks game on TV just to get a glimpse of this guy in action.

An example of great photography at work?  Let's look at Tyler Seguin...

Fantastic shot of Seguin in the process of shooting.  Look at the flex in his stick.   Great photo.

The canvas cards are back again in series 2, and lucky me, I was able to pull a Maple Leaf!!

A great shot of Leafs #1 goalie Jonathan Bernier stretching to make a save (hopefully).  I also pulled the base cards of 3 other Leafs (Franson, Kadri and Bolland), along with 2 other Canvas cards (Varlamov, Brodin).

What I was surprised to find in the tin were these...

High numbered 13-14 OPC cards.   Not that I don't love the O-Pee-Chee set from this year, but did UD have to make it more difficult to complete?  You're killing me Petey, you're killing me.

I am seriously overdue to put together a complete Upper Deck hockey set.  I've gotten away from trying to complete them because the Young Guns are seeded 1:4.   I really do miss the days when base sets could be put together without the benefit of companies short printing a portion of the set.

Are any of the card manufacturers listening?  To me?  Probably not.

After all, I don't have a license to print money....

Thanks for reading, Robert

  1. Wait, what? The Blackhawks are dreaded? Huh... I guess I've been cheering for the wrong team the last few decades.
