Survival of the fattest

This post is a thinly veiled disguise to show 5 more cards for the Serial Insanity set.  I received a great envelope today from Doug at Sportscards From The Dollar Store.  How great was this envelope you ask?

I don't think I've ever received a PWE with 10 cards inside.  Talk about staying power, check it out!!

That envelope had a nice tear, taped (mummified might be a better word) from head to toe, and yet the cards inside were as nice as the day they were ripped from a pack.

Here's 5 of them for you, all from the 1998 Topps Stars set...

Two sons of major leaguers in the top row flank the 47th card for the Mets.   They are the first team to be just 3 cards away from being "complete".

There were also 4 more SNI cards inside, which I'll save for the next serial numbered post.  The 10th card was one for the Joe Sakic PC, from the 2012-13 Artifacts set.

Great cards all around. Thank you for the PWE Doug, much appreciated!!

Thanks for reading, Robert

  1. I was wondering if there was going to be a reference to the Fat Wreck Chords compilations from the 90's. One of the best was called "Survival Of The Fattest". Probably not a huge crossover between 90's punk fans and baseball card collectors.

  2. And that, dear reader, is why I sometimes tend to packing tape some of my PWEs into oblivion. Or maybe the power of an adorable pair of baby porcupines to keep cards intact are greater than you might think.

  3. As a new reader of your blog, could you explain your Serial Insanity project or link me to the original post? I've heard about it here and there, but gotta admit I don't get exactly what's going on.

    1. Sure, the Serial Insanity project is an attempt to get 1500 serial #'d cards (1-1500) with an equal number of cards coming from each of the 30 MLB clubs (or in other words, 50 each). They can be from any year, but they are all from Topps/Bowman products (so no UD, Fleer, etc.). the want list you see on the blog are the serial numbers that I have left over.
