Random Jay Monday: 2007 Topps Chrome Alex Rios

At the top of the post for a change
It was kind of interesting that the randomizer picked this card for the Monday post.  I don't think I've ever seen a Jays player fall further out of favor than Alex Rios did in his time in Toronto.  To go from signing a 7 yr, almost $70 million contract in April of '08, to being put on waivers in August of 2009.  How does this happen?  Attitude, towards the city and the club, pretty much made it impossible for him to remain a Blue Jay.  How bad was it?  The Toronto Star said this about Alex in April of 2010  (link found here )

Rios, who was neither the laziest nor dumbest Blue Jay in history — although he would be a finalist in both categories...
Now that's cold.

Let's move on to the card itself.  It's from the 2007 Topps Chrome set, card # 224.  I like this set, the black borders are always a favorite, and the design itself doesn't take away from the photo.

I kind of wish that the Chrome sets stayed more this size than what they shrunk to last season (220 cards).  I know with the price of Chrome that will make putting the set together more expensive, but these smaller 200 card sets aren't worth putting together for me.  It's almost as if you start putting together the set, and it's complete.   But again, what do I know, I'm just one of the little guys who buys the stuff.  No guarantees on that this year though.

Thanks for reading, Robert

  1. I can see why they would say that about Rios. He seems to have all the talent in the world but it just seems like he doesn't care. I don't know if that's the way he just comes off or if he's really like that.
