Cool cards, # 3 & 4

Good evening to you all, I just wanted to share with you all a couple of more cards that I found that I thought were pretty cool.

Yes, I'm a bit biased here because they are both Jays, but I have my reasons...

Cool card # 3:  1998 Score # 60, Carlos Delgado, Toronto Blue Jays

FIRE!!

Now this is something you don't see every day on a baseball card.  It appears that this was in the middle of a game, because the stands appear to have a pretty decent crowd on hand.   Now I'm thinking that this is maybe a spring training game, because I don't recall seeing that kind of fun happening during the regular season.   I would love to know who Carlos is shooting the water gun towards.   If you think you might have more info about this card, don't hesitate to post a comment.

Cool card # 4:  2011 Topps Diamond Parallel # 296, John Buck, Toronto Blue Jays

I love how the diamond background really sets off the photo of John Buck in this card.  What even makes this card more enjoyable for me is the glasses and the mask.

Love both the reflective shades he's wearing, plus the design of the Blue Jay in the mask.  It's almost as if the bird is flying right at you, and the talons on the jawline are a nice touch as well.  I've always enjoyed the modern catchers masks, especially when they employ artwork such as this.

Thanks for reading, Robert

  1. Hi Robert...I remember Buck used to have a bright blue mask with a big white "KC" logo on it when he caught for the Royals (I can't readily find a picture). He's definitely got that goalie mentality.

  2. Josh, I'd forgotten about the KC mask until your comment reminded me. Goalie mentality is probably the best way to describe catchers. Gregg Zaun was another player who had some great designs on his masks.
